Pneumatic Barring Device
Barring devices are necessary, so as to achieve the position of the piston or rotor required for maintenance and repair of machines by turning the flywheel or the rotor.
This rotating motion can be carried out:
- by hand with a turning bar, which must be inserted into the holes on the periphery of the flywheel or of the rotor.
- by an electrically driven, multiple-stage gear with a gearwheel, which reaches into a toothed flywheel ring on the periphery of the flywheel or of the rotor.
- by pneumatically operated cylinder with the respective equipment.
The 1st method requires power and is risky since the positioning is difficult.
The 2nd and 3rd method bears no risk, since both, positioning and securing of the flywheel or of the rotor are provided by the permanent mesh of the jack bolt and/or of the toothed wheel.
Pneumatic Barring Device:
- With a 5/3-way solenoid valve and a pull & push reversing device screwed on, you can insert the square secured piston rod into the turnholes and to turn the flywheel and/or the rotor in both directions according to the selected stroke of the standard cylinder.
- Owing to its form and to the rotating motion of the flywheel or of the rotor, at the end of the stroke, the jack bolt slips out of one barring hole and grips into the next one. Owing to the spring-loaded sliding piston in the piston housing and in the swing flange in the bearing support, the cylinder together with the piston rod and the jack bolt slide along the surface of the flywheel with the help of a distance/ slide piece.
- For forward and backward rotation, the jack bolt can be turned and locked by hand.
- The forward/backward speed can be smoothly set by the means of a reversible switch.
- After completion of the work, lock the piston housing manually in its end position. Now, the contact of the limit switch is free for start-up.
